There’s Still Time

Hi everyone, I know you’re getting ready to go to Louisville, assuming you haven’t left home yet, and you’re really busy with your preparations.  You’ve probably picked your suit up from the dry cleaner, polished your boots, confirmed your hotel reservation, facebooked all your friends about where you’re going to meet and stuffed your suitcase full of barn clothes, show clothes, swimsuit and sunscreen.  I got tired just reading that…  So I’m sure you’re squeezed tight on time.

Please though, take 3 minutes and purchase your ticket for the Saddlebred Rescue Brunch and Silent Auction.  Major points are listed below:

  • Brunch and Silent Auction
  • 10:30 – 1:30 on Thursday, August 23
  • Crowne Plaza across the street from Freedom Hall and the Kentucky Expo Center
  • Bid on lots of cool items
  • Buy a ticket on this link: Buy a Brunch Ticket

Maryta is giving her guarantee to the hotel on Monday morning, so although there’s still time, there’s not a lot of time and we need your help.  Thanks in advance.  See you on Thursday.

TV

This morning, our very own Nancy Trent Crump brought our message to thousands of people in the metro Louisville area.  Nancy and the Theo Faberge Egg appeared on WAVE3 Weekend Sunrise with Scott Adkins who asked Nancy about the particulars of our rescue efforts.  In my very biased  opinion, Nancy was wonderful.  She was poised, informative and the camera loved her.  Better yet, even more people know about the hard work and wonderful results of Saddlebred Rescue.  Who says, “all that’s on the news is bad stuff”?  Nancy proved that to be incorrect today.  I am going to try and get a clip of the interview and post it.  Until then…

$10 (Again)

hay On June 25, I blogged in response to Nealia McCracken’s wish that everyone involved with Saddlebreds would donate just $10 to Saddlebred Rescue.  (Truly a great idea.)  My feeling was that most of us won’t miss $10 , but $10 can make a real difference in the life of a horse bound for slaughter.  (http://wp.me/s2wdB1-10).   One of the things that I mentioned was that $10 would buy 2 bales of hay.  Well guess what?  The price of hay has doubled since that post just 6 short weeks ago.  Nancy Trent just shared with me that she re-read that particular post last night and giggled upon reading that part.  She went further to tell me that she is now paying $10 / bale at her farm in Union, KY.

No I don’t think that the hay farmers have colluded to double their profits.  What I do think is that this awful drought that is covering most of the country is the cause of the price increase.  It has been so dry that the hay farmers are harvesting about half of what they normally harvest.  This is bad news for everyone, particularly the rescue horses because they usually come in quite thin and need good hay to put on weight.  This is clearly not a luxury item but a critical staple.  So as you are determining your giving, please could you just add $5 to it?  That would be a huge help, it really would.

Hmmm…  is that another blog post?  $5, what will it buy?

At Last……….

Carousel1

Carousel Egg by Theo Faberge

Do you remember when you were a kid and you didn’t think you could take the waiting until Christmas?  You laid there on your bed and dreamed about a new bike or The Barbie Dream House?  You convinced yourself that Santa had seen all of your virtuous acts and somehow his back was turned when you teased your little sister and fed the dog under the table. You absolutely knew that not only would you get your new bike, it would be the exact one that you loved visiting at Brady Hardware.  It would be the deep blue one that you coveted, it would be a 10 speed and have hand brakes.  You could feel the wind flying through your hair and you planned just where you were going to ride to first.  You were already shifting the gears in your head as you went up the hill to get to the library.  You just knew it was going to be fabulous…  that is if you could possibly live through days that seemed like years.

That is what waiting on this one of a kind Carousel Egg has been like for me.  Tomorrow morning it will be shown on WAVE3 TV at 6:25 a.m. with our very own Dr. Nancy Trent.  After that, it can be viewed at Merkley Kendrick Jewelers at 138 Chenowith Lane in St. Mathews.  The Carousel Egg will be on display there until Wednesday afternoon and I encourage you to drop in and see it.  Thursday, this fabulous piece of art will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the the Silent Auction / Brunch to benefit Saddlebred Rescue.  Someone is going to be incredibly lucky to have this piece in their collection, they really are.

The brunch and silent auction is being held at 10:30 a.m. at The Crowne Plaza Hotel on Phillips Lane across the street from the Kentucky Expo Center.  You can still get tickets by pressing the button on the right side of this blog marked “Brunch Tickets”.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Did I Mention?

Okay, middle age is getting the best of my short term memory….  Just sayin’.   It really is.

In any event, did I mention that Zang Toi (http://www.houseoftoi.com/) is going to be at the Saddlebred Rescue Brunch and Silent Auction and you can meet him?  Our good friend from Glasscock Boutique, Todd Calvert, tells me that Mr. Toi is having a Trunk Show during the World Championship Horse Show.  Further, Glasscock Boutique will make a generous donation on behalf of those who purchase merchandise after attending the Saddlebred Rescue Brunch.  Wow, is all I can say to that.

It’s Not Just Really Expensive Stuff

As I read through the blog posts, it hit me that people might think that we are only offering uber expensive items in the silent auction.  Thankfully, that’s not the case.  We have a wide variety of pieces in a broad range of price points.  Below is a partial list of auction items that can be yours.

  • Breyer Horse
  • Ad in Saddle Horse Report
  • A ride on Nutcracker Ballerina
  • A photo by Jane or Brooke Jacobs
  • Becker Brothers custom shirt
  • Rock Creek Box and VIP parking pass
  • Gift Certificate to Veranese Restaurant
  • Ad in Show Horse magazine
  • Leather Halter
  • Saddlebred Rescue Logo wear
  • Vera Bradley merchandise
  • A ride on the beach on St. Simons Island
  • Riding lessons with Reiser Stables
  • Riding Lessons with Jo Cornell
  • Round of Golf for 4 at Valhalla
  • Private Pilates instruction
  • Various Historical Magazines
  • Hand crafted pewter goblets by Douwe Blumberg

And the list goes on as more items come in.  As I write, we have 160 items featured in the silent auction and I am thankful for each and every one of them.  Each sold item buys the hay, grain, vaccinations, shoeing, teeth floating, transportation, training, fencing, supplements, vet care, etc. that are required to save and place approximately 100 horses per year.  Please help us Save a Saddlebred.

P.S.  The brunch details are below:

8.23.12 @ 10:30 a.m. @ The Crowne Plaza (across the street from the Expo Center)

Tickets are still available and you can buy one by clicking on the “Brunch Ticket” button on the right side of your screen.

See you on the 23rd.

P.S.S.  (This is really the last thing, and it’s very important.) You don’t have to be present to bid.  You can make arrangements with Pat Johnson to bid remotely.  Email her at pat@saddlebredrescue.com

Newest Auction Item — Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC

Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw and come bid on 2 tickets to Fashion Week in New York City.  Yes you read that correctly. Thanks to our friends at Glasscock Boutique, The Saddlebred Rescue Brunch and Silent Auction is proud to offer for your bidding, 2 tickets to events on September 8 & 9, 2012 during this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City.  The brunch and silent auction is being held August 23 @ 10:30 a.m. at the Crowne Hotel across the street from the KY Expo Center.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is New York City’s single largest media event, taking place twice a year (February & September) at Lincoln Center, one of the most well known arts and cultural institutions in the world.  The event provides top designers an international platform to showcase their collections to more than 100,000 industry insiders from around the world, including buyers, editors, retailers, celebrities, VIPs, and more.  The tickets are slated to be used on Saturday and Sunday of Fashion Week.  You will be invited to view the collections of Zang Toi, Christian Siriano, Chado Ralph Rucci, Chris Benz and Rafael Cennamo to name a few designers.  This annual event is known as the premier event worldwide where style, beauty, supermodels, and celebrities come together to celebrate the best in fashion.

We can’t promise exactly which celebrities, designers and supermodels you’ll see, but our friend Todd Calvert, from Glasscock Boutique, promises to take you for showroom visits to some of the world’s greatest designers.  The highest bidder and their + one will have the opportunity to visit:

When I talked to Todd Calvert a few minutes ago, he was coy and leading me on, but he said that he might be able to sweeten the prize, he would know more at the brunch.  Truly, I’m not sure what he meant by that, but I intend to find out.

Okay, I know this post is getting long, but I have to tell you that Zang Toi and Todd Calvert will be at the brunch.  Zang Toi is having a Trunk Show in the Hancock Room and all of us are invited to check it out.  Anyone that attends the Saddlebred Rescue Brunch and Silent Auction and subsequently purchases at the trunk show will further help Saddlebred Rescue.  Glasscock Boutique has agreed to donate a generous portion of the purchase price directly to Saddlebred Rescue.  A very selfless act.  Thank you Glasscock.

So how about it, think of that one special friend that you want to experience this bucket list event with.  Bid on and win the tickets to part of Fashion Week.  Enjoy New York in the autumn.  You guys will have a blast.

This could be you.

P.S.  We have made arrangements to bid remotely.

P.S. again.  I’m not sure what celebrities you will run into, but Todd Calvert told me that least year at one of the shows, he sat next to Brad Pitt and behind Susan Sarandon.  Oh, and he also swears that Anna Wintour is a really nice woman, a doll in fact.
